Duties

The Mayor, as the ceremonial head and chief officer of the city, possess all powers and exercises all duties provided or required by law or the City Council. In those capacities, the significant duties of the Mayor are described below:

• Presiding officer of the City Council
• Member of the City Council with all powers and duties of that office
• Senior advisor to the City Council concerning the affairs of the City
• Appointing official with appointments subject to City Council approval
• Senior elected official who guides the development of community-wide goals with the City Council
• Senior elected official who oversees long-range planning and improvements with the City Council
• Senior representative of the City to other cities and government entities
